Club Med announces opening of its second ski resort in China.
Club Med Beidahu is set to become Club Med‘s second ski hotel in China when it opens in December this year. The all-inclusive resort will feature fitness room, spa and Jacuzzi, as well as the trademark hospitality from its G.Os (Gentil Organisateurs). It will begin accepting bookings from May 3.
The French hotel group has likely responded to an opportunity to set up in a resort that, until now, has been conspicuously absent of any high-end hotels or accommodation. Club Med Beidahu will compete at the luxury end China’s ski market with resorts like Changbaishan, which is home to no less than four established foreign hotel brands – a Park Hyatt, The Westin, Sheraton and Holiday Inn.

Club Med Yabuli, the brand’s other ski resort in China, has been in operation since the 2010/11 winter season and has received mostly positive reviews.
Club Med’s aggressive expansion into China comes as no surprise. The French hotel group accepted a takeover bid from Chinese giant Fosun earlier this year, and is one of a number of companies to looking to capitalize on China’s rapidly growing fascination with skiing.
In the last year, the China’s ski and snowboarding community has grown by 25% to 12.5 million – a number which Xi Jinping is hoping will inflate to 300 million by the time the Olympics comes to Beijing in 2022.
