Niseko is a genuine bucket list item for skiers around the world, and has built its reputation on the quality and quantity of powder that falls on its slopes. However, the ultra-popular Hokkaido resort is far more than a destination for powder-seekers, and for many years has been attracting family visitors, who enjoy the resort for its excellent beginner terrain, ski schools, family-friendly facilities and, of course, the many activities available for kids to enjoy – both on and off the slopes.
There’s nothing better on a family holiday than seeing your kids embrace new challenges and adventures. In an effort to help all families visiting the Niseko area, we spoke with the team from EdVenture by MnK to find out their recommendations for kids’ activities.
EdVenture by MnK has been specialising in kid-friendly activities since 2011, with the belief that the great outdoors is the perfect setting for young minds to live, learn and discover. They offer multi-activity year-round programmes for children aged 3 to 14 years old in the natural environment surrounding the area.
Snowshoe adventure
EdVenture says: “Snowshoeing gives children the opportunity to explore the backcountry! They’ll need to work together to put on snowshoes, learning how to use them and tackling the challenges of walking in deep powder. This is a great activity for escaping the busy slopes and immersing yourself in the beautiful surroundings that Niseko has to offer.”

Igloo/snow cave construction
EdVenture says: “Anywhere with large amounts of snow is good for giving snow caves and igloo construction a go. Kids can work as a team to construct a winter den, learning new skills and techniques along the way. It’s an activity that kids can learn during their time with EdVenture and then share with their families.”

Snowcraft / Toboggan building
EdVenture says: “We help kids take a hands-on approach to building sledges, toboggans, and other snow transportation, letting children get stuck in and learn new skills for themselves. Once completed we gear up and test them out, making changes along the way to see what’s possible.”

Skiing & Snowboarding
EdVenture says: “We love helping to ignite children’s passion for the mountains, offering them the freedom to learn and explore with other like-minded young skiers/snowboarders in a safe and fun environment.”
