Niseko confirms new chairlift for 2017/18 season
Niseko Annupuri targets beginner skiers in major upgrade.
Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area – one of the four resorts that form Niseko United – has confirmed the addition of a new quad chairlift for the 2017/18 ski season. The Dream Quad Lift #1 will carry skiers and snowboarders 433 metres from the base of the resort (near the existing gondola and and Jumbo Quad Lift #1 stations) up to an area near the Niseko Northern Resort Annupuri. Essentially, it allows beginner riders to enjoy the lowermost and easiest section of the resort’s Junior Course.
In a press release issued by the resort, it has also been revealed that the lift will travel at lower speeds to accommodate beginner riders who are not confident getting on and off lifts, as well as a widening of the slope to allow for the increased traffic.
Niseko Annupuri appears to have followed the lead of neighbouring Niseko Village, who only recently launched two all-season lifts and a new 1.2 km beginner run that runs alongside the central village.
All signs indicate that the Niseko United resorts have their eyes firmly set on the lucrative beginner market, which has grown as a result of increased traffic from countries like China, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Focus now turns to Niseko Hirafu’s ultra popular Family run – which is often inundated with crowds, and long overdue for an upgrade. The lift is reportedly also under construction and will be reconstructed as a 4-seater in time for the 2017/18 season.
