The most accessible ski resort in Japan
A few years back, we published a guide to ski resorts near Tokyo, listing some of the most convenient resorts to get to from Japan’s capital. Youtuber Didi & Bryan Travels has gone one step further and named what he claims is the most accessible ski resort in Japan (from Tokyo) – and he makes a compelling case.
In a video capturing his day trip to GALA Yusawa and the neighbouring Ishiuchi resort, the Youtuber takes us on the 74-minute shinkansen (bullet train) trip from Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa station, and virtually straight onto the gondola at the resort.
“The amazing part about Gala is that the train literally goes to the ski resort, so as soon as we get out we will be at the lifts”, he remarks.
“At the station, there’s a locker room and a place to rent equipment as well.”
He also has some advice for budget-conscious skiers:
“To get here you can take the shinkansen, which is only a 74-minute train ride. However, there are actually a couple of ways to get a cheaper ticket. If you go on the weekdays you can buy a package deal online, where the price is already cheaper than the round-trip ticket, and it also includes the lift ticket.
“Also, if you’re not a Japanese citizen, you can also get the JR TOKYO Wide Pass, which is not only a 3-day pass (so you can go multiple days), but the pass itself is also cheaper than a round trip ticket.”
