Xavier De Le Rue and Sam Anthamatten explore Changbaishan in China's northeast.

The Freeride World Tour’s future in Asia looks bright, after a series of videos released to their Facebook page revealed that they are currently scouting locations for an event based in China. A freeride team that included Xavier De Le Rue and Sam Anthamatten were filmed exploring terrain around Changbaishan – a volcano located in China’s northeast which shares a border with North Korea.

It is the same location that was featured earlier this year in Jordan Manley’s series, A Skier’s Journey. The area is otherwise largely unknown in the freeride scene, and not to be confused with the nearby Wanda International Changbaishan Resort – one of the most popular ski resorts in China.

The project in China is the second piece of evidence to suggest that the Freeride World Tour sees a big future in Asia. Earlier in the year, Travis Rice headlined Asia’s first ever Freeride World Qualifier event held in Hakuba, Japan.
